BEST Underrated TV Shows #1

I watch a lot of TV and there are some shows that I watch each week that absolutely love but aren't getting the recognition that they deserve. So I thought I would compile a list of my current favourite, but very underrated TV shows that anyone can enjoy.

iZombie

The first show on my list is one of the best CW shows I have ever seen, and that is iZombie. This show is loosely based on the Vertigo comic with the same name and it tells a different zombie story from a new point of view. iZombie has a female lead, named Liv Moore, who is just trying to live a normal life working in a morgue while also eating brains. On top of this, Liv gets visions and personality traits from each brain she eats and used this to help Detective Clive Babineaux solve homicides.

This show is a comedy-drama making it a nice lighthearted thing to stick on. And, unlike other zombie shows, it isn't full of brain bashing violence that might put you off your dinner, it sticks to the funny side of zombies without being cringe. iZombie also never gets boring since Liv is eating a new brain each episode that means she has a new personality each episode. It really is a great display of acting from Rose McIver.

All of iZombie is available to stream now on UK Netflix.

Shadowhunters

The next show on my list is Shadowhunters. This show is based on the Mortal Instruments books by Cassandra Clare, which means if you love the show you can go even deeper into this world. Shadowhunters follows Clary Fray who is suddenly thrown into the secret world of the supernatural on her 18th birthday and she quickly learns that all the legends are true. She discovers that this world she thought she knew is being protected from demons from half angel beings called Shadowhunters.

I love the plot behind Shadowhunters so much. The fact that it takes the same old supernatural story we have all heard before and twists it to create something new, that includes every creature you could imagine. Not only does this show focus on legends but it also has very real plots about involving their LGBTQIA+ characters. This show has coming out and self-discovery stories that I think it handles very well. And not to mention that this show has the only cannon Asexual characters on TV right now, as far as I am aware. This show having gay, bi and ace characters and not making a big deal out of it or fetishizing it, like other shows, really made Shadowhunters stand out for me.

You can watch all of Shadowhunters on UK Netflix now.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the funniest shows on TV and I don't think this show will ever bore me. It is truly wonderful. This show is set in Brooklyn's 99th precinct, which has just been taken over by a new captain named Ray Holt. The show primarily follows Jake Peralta who is clueless but surprisingly is a great detective. Although being set in a precinct, not a lot of the stories are about crime but mainly the weird and crazy antics that happen with these group of detectives while they're not out solving crime.

Although Brooklyn Nine-Nine can be a seriously silly show at times it is actually one of the smartest shows on TV right now. This show tackles some pretty serious topics but does it with comedy, without insulting the topic at hand. It's great that this show can educate people in a fun and lighthearted way. One of the first stories in the show involves Captain Holt's sexuality and you'll notice that the jokes are never directed at Holt or insulting him, which is so refreshing as many sitcoms get their laughs from targeting certain groups. This show also has a great cast full of different personalities and honestly, I think it's hard to dislike any of the characters on this show. I was going to tell you my favourite character but I just can't pick, I love all of them. And to make things even better, this show has fantastic character development. It's so satisfying watching characters you love grow and better themselves rather than being stuck in the same repetitive rut. Let's not forget that this show has actual healthy relationships that, again, better the characters involved. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a Tumblr quote-worthy show and if you're not watching it, you are seriously missing out.

The first three seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine are available on UK Netflix.

So now you've got your watchlist ready, you just need to make an excuse so you don't have to attend those plans and can binge watch all day instead.

Let me know in the comments if you've watched any of these shows and if you'd like to see more of my favourite underrated shows!
