Love, Simon hits theatres very soon but before we all watch the movie, let’s talk about the book!
Almost everyone I know has read Love, Simon (also known as Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda) by Becky Albertalli so when Penguin gave everyone at the TEENSgate blogging event a copy, I was over the moon. This book lives up to the hype in every way.
The first thing that stood out to me when reading this was the writing style! Becky truly got into the head of Simon Spier and you really can see the difference. The words written were purely Simon’s.
One of my favourite things in the book was when Simon got drunk. You could see his speech and thoughts getting progressive more wild and nonsensical. I really struggled not the laugh while reading on the train.
I loved that this book was so real with its depiction of teen life. There was no one true ‘villain’ but instead showed how everyone has good sides and sides that they aren’t so proud of, even Simon.
Love, Simon is a love story for the ages. It has a perfect mix of drama and fluff that kept me hooked and rooting for Simon and Blue. It made me feel so many emotions but the main feeling I had when I finished reading was proud. Proud that my generation gets a story full of representation that will truly make a difference, no matter how small, in every reader’s life.
I can’t wait for the film so this amazing story can reach more people.
Love, Simon by Becky Albertalli is available to buy now. The film hits UK cinemas April 6th.
