Crazy Ex-Girlfriend | Review
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend appears at first to just be a silly musical but progresses into one of the most genius comedies on TV.
When you first start watching this show, you’ll find yourself finishing every episode screaming “WHAT?!” And then eagerly playing the next episode.
As you get into it and are used to the theatrics of the show, you’ll soon fall in love and notice the brilliance of the story.
It smashes down traditional tropes and laughs in their face. It understands its own wackiness and roles with it. Often leading to very self-aware songs.
OH, THE SONGS! Weird, wonderful, and catchy. You’ll find yourself singing about period sex in public.
The songs in this show are that iconic that I actually knew ‘Getting Bi’ and had no idea it was from the show. When I was enlightened, I immediately ran to Netflix to see what else Crazy Ex-Girlfriend had in store.
Yes, at the face of it, it’s a musical and a love story of sorts but underneath that, it has very real and groundbreaking topics. It’s quite amazing that this show was on The CW (the same network as Riverdale).
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is in the same line as Jane the Virgin. It’s hilarious, extravagant, emotional, truthful, and at times, hard-hitting. Rachel Bloom truly is a genius. You won’t see yourself falling for this show until it’s too late and you’ll be ever so glad you did.
