Get in losers, we’re saving the planet.

Every hour 1.5 million pounds of plastic waste is dumped carelessly into our oceans but let’s keep complaining about that paper straw, Karen.

Plastic is an everyday object to us now. It’s everywhere we look and, for the most part, it can make our life easier. But the problem is, plastic isn’t easily disregarded once were finished with it. In fact, most of it will be here long after me and you are gone. Just a single plastic bottle can take up to 450 years to decompose! It’s crazy!

So, what can we do? Well for starters, cut down on single-use plastic. Do you really need that carrier bag?

Plastic is pretty hard to avoid in our everyday lives, so don’t feel too bad when you come into contact with it. Just try to recycle when you can!

I’m guessing everyone and their dog have noticed the switch to paper straws in most restaurants and shops. While they may be slightly inconvenient, use them if you can.

Single-use plastic straws aren’t recyclable so once you’re done with your drink, they often find a way into the belly of some poor animal. This exposes them to chemicals which eventually leads back to us meat-eaters.

But what use is it replacing plastic straws when I buy a drink from Costa and they hand me a completely plastic cup, just with a paper straw jammed in?

It isn’t just Costa, almost every drink and food chain include plastic when they give you your drink.

I know that this is just a fraction of the problem when it comes to plastic pollution in the world. It just shows how little corporations actually care about our planet.

It seems like paper straws are just trendy and are just there to give the illusion of caring for the environment while doing the absolute bare minimum.

Could you imagine the huge difference that could be made of big companies started to actually care for this little planet we call home? Soon enough there won’t be a point where we can turn back and we’ll have to sit and watch with the regret that fills our hearts.
