Riverdale Theories: Did Betty Kill Jason Blossom?

In episode 3 of Riverdale, Body Double, we saw a new side to Betty Cooper. A side that didn't follow the rules, that didn't want to be a good girl anymore. This raised a lot of questions about what Betty is capable of. Did this good girl gone bad kill Jason?

My first thought, inspired by Screen Junkies, was that Polly is actually Betty's twin sister and they have switched places. Perhaps Betty went to see her ill sister and Polly convinced her to switch places or, worse, kidnapped Betty to take her place. This would explain why suddenly Betty wants to change and not follow her own rules, and also why her mother is being overly protective. It would also explain the hot tub scene in which Berry called herself Polly and is so desperate to get revenge. Killing the man who destroyed you and taking your perfect sister's place, who would expect that?

Another theory I have seen floating around is that Polly doesn't actually exist and Betty has a split personality disorder, Polly is all in her head. This could mean that she could switch back and forth and not even remember what she has done. Is why her mother flinches at the mention of Polly? Unfortunately, I think not. I have recently learnt that Tiera Skovbye will be playing Polly Cooper in the series so I guess that means Betty is innocent, right? 

We all know that Jason Blossom pushed Polly over the edge but what if Betty is experiencing the same thing. It hasn't been discussed in detail what happened to Polly but I can only assume that she is suffering some kind of mental illness and it's not unheard of for mental health issues to run in the family. Did losing Polly drive Betty over the edge? What if she cracked, just like her sister, and killed Jason but can't remember, or doesn't want to. 

My final theory not only involves Betty but her mother, Alice Cooper. She has not been quiet about her hate for Jason and his whole family. In fact, she was happy to find out he was dead. But what if she planned this? Just from the first 3 episodes, you can tell she's not the kindest mother or person. What if she pushed Betty to kill Jason for her or even killed him herself but pushed the blame onto her daughter. This could explain why she doesn't want Betty to get close to anyone, especially Cheryl, in fear she will share their secret.

January Favourites 2017

2017 has had a bumpy start but let's focus on the positives, here are my January favourites!

My first favourite of this month is an app called TVShow Time. This app lets you track all of the television shows you are watching, or have watched in the past, and alerts you to new episodes. My personal favourite part of the app is that there is a discussion area for every episode with other viewers so you can see other's thoughts on the episode without seeing spoilers. The app also tells you how long you have spent watching TV in your life, I'm up to 2 months and 21 days, along with other stats. This app so helpful as I watch so many shows I could never actually keep up with them all. However, it does help you procrastinate quite a bit as when you finish one show it perfectly suggests you another. You can get TVShow Time for free on the app store and while you're at it, you can follow me on it too.

Speaking of TV shows, I have been watching a lot of Netflix this month. The first show I discovered this month was Shadowhunters. I have never seen the film nor have I ever read the books so I went into this show not knowing anything and damn did it blow me away. I finished all of season 1 in two days, it's all I did when I wasn't at college. The plot twist at the end of season 1 really shocked me and, honestly, I'm still not over it. Shadowhunters is all about the supernatural with lots of drama. My favourites characters so far are Jace and Magnus, I relate to them both on a spiritual level.

The second Netflix show I have started this month is Riverdale. Currently, there is only two episode out but I already love it. It's based on series of comics published by Archie Comics and I want to buy them all to try and find out what happens next. The best way I could describe this show is that it is like Pretty Little Liars but with a lighter mood. It's your typical murder mystery in an American high school with great characters and lots of ships.

In terms of fashion in January, I have been loving this black and red plaid jacket from H&M, on sale for £10. Wearing this with black skinny jeans and Converse makes me feel like one of those typical Tumblr girls you hear about in songs.

My beauty favourite has to be this brightly coloured Revolution Pallet. You can get this pallet, called Makeup Revolution Redemption Palette Mermaids vs Unicorns, at Superdrug for £4. I was pleasantly surprised at how long and well it lasted throughout the day to say it has a low price.

Top Films of 2016

2016 is coming to a close, and to honour this year of tragedies, politics and many great films, this is my round up of my favourite cinematic beauties.

5. Arrival 
Arrival is a very different science fiction film. There is no fights, no action, no explosions. But instead, focuses on the science side of Sci-Fi. In this film you see multiple alien aircrafts arrive on Earth but make no attempt to contact humans. Linguistic, Louise Banks (Amy Adams) teams up with Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) to try and figure out and understand why these aliens are on Earth. Arrival is incredibly different to other Sci-Fi films. It is stripped back of the over the top CGI, making you truly connect with the characters and the plot. This film is not only entertaining but makes you think too. It will have you questioning the whole structure of life and how we, think we, understand it. 

4. Bridget Jones's Baby
Bridget Jones is a classic film and this is the third film in the trilogy, and it does its precursors justice. This is the funniest film I have seen in 2016, I could not stop laughing throughout. As the name would suggest, Bridget Jones (Renée Zellwege) is having a baby but unfortunately, doesn't know who her baby daddy is. There is not too much I can say about this film, my recommendation would be not to read too much about it and just dive straight in.

3. Moana
Moana is the newest 'Disney Princess'. This film gives Frozen a run for its money. Not only does it have an incredible soundtrack but it also has a great plot, with beautiful characters. Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) is a smart, strong and independent character who is a near-perfect role model for the children watching this film. Although other princess films like Sleeping Beauty and Snow White are great, they weren't made for this generation, they might not be all that relevant to kids anymore. That's why I love how Disney is developing their new characters to fit with the times. Moana is a story about the ocean and a demigod, it's about this young girl who must face incredible dangers to save her family and island. If that doesn't sound like the perfect Disney film, what does?

2. Zootopia
This is on of the best Disney films realised in a very long time. This film is so action packed, there is so much to it. Every time you watch this beauty, you will discover something new. It has so many hidden messages that are dealt with in the right way to not shove it down the audience's throat. And although myself and my friend were one of the only people in the cinema without a child, you will enjoy this film despite your age. Zootopia is about Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) who enlists the help of her new fox friend (Jason Bateman) to solve the case of mysterious disappearances of animals. If you haven't seen this film yet or you're not a typical Disney fan, give it a go anyway, try everything, and you might just find yourself giggling along. I firmly believe that this film will go down in history as one of the Disney classics. 

Honourable Mention: Deadpool. 
Although this film did not make my top five, as two superhero films in one list can get a bit much, I wanted to mention it. It is arguably one of the best X-Men films and Ryan Reynolds is absolutely perfect as Wade Wilson. 

1. Captain America: Civil War 
This was my most anticipated film of the year and, boy did it deliver. Making a film with that many Avengers, with some of the most iconic Marvel heroes, along with the arrival of Spider-Man to the MCU, with the plot of one of the biggest comic book events is a tricky job. I take my hat off to Joe and Anthony Russo because they pulled it off. Although it could be argued that Civil War is more of an Iron Man or Avenger film than Captain America, it was still great. The reason this film is at my number one of 2016 is because it made me feel more emotions than any film this year. I was crying from the excitement as soon as I saw the Marvel logo appear, and with the heartbreaking flashbacks, the death of a beloved character, the emotional and heart-wrenching arguments, and the hilarious dialogue from Spider-Man and Ant-Man, I did not stop crying until after the end credits. This is a must see for any Marvel or superhero fan. 

2017 looks hopeful on the cinema front, let us hope the big titles live up to the expectations.
